The state should protect its citizens. However, in a twist of fate, the state acts contrary to this notion and takes up arms against its own citizens.
In the weeks following Nigeria’s independence day in October 2020, protests erupted across several Nigerian cities, decrying the extrajudicial activities of the executive arm of the government, particularly the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). These protests, tagged “EndSARS protest,” called for an end to the unit’s acts and misconduct.
I made photographs of the protests in Ile-Ife, Osun state.
